Kumfs
Kumfs was founded by two enterprising podiatrists.
Their in-depth anatomical knowledge of feet formed the basis of their footwear design. Their initial focus was in the development of lasts - this is the shoemakers model for giving
shoes their final shape. They began with extensive research, examining the feet of thousands of women. They measured, they made plaster moulds and explored the different types of
arches. This all lead to designing lasts that were unique and being able to make shoes that were truly comfortable.
While THE LAST CAME FIRST, many other comfort features have been built in to Kumfs. Most are hidden within the shoe's construction, so the look is fashion while the fit's fabulous.

Kumfs' testing laboratory
During the manufacturing process, leather is subject to many things: cutting, heat during molding and stretching
during the lasting. Customers also put finished shoes through a range of everyday pressures - including flexing, rubbing and use in wet conditions.
To be sure Kumfs shoes can withstand all these pressures, the company has invested in its own in-house testing laboratory as well as following standards from the international shoe
industry bodies SATRA and LASRA.
Leather undergoes 13 different quality tests to ensure the very best in selected. Other component parts and finished shoes are also rigorously tested.
Some of the specific tests include:
TENSILE TESTER - tests the stretch and strength of leather, tests
Velcro for fastening ability, also tests shoe
laces and thread.
SHOE FLEXOR - finished shoes are tested for their behavior during wear, such as reasing, creation of pressure points inside the shoe and sole bond. A shoe is clamped into the
device and put through 500,000 flexes - an equivalent of two years walking life of the shoe. This test lasts for 60 hours.
RUB FASTNESS TESTER - using a felt pad and a circular motion, the fastness of the leather finish in wet and dry conditions is tested.
ABRASION TESTER - a more severe rub test using multi-directional force and a larger rubbing area.
ADHESION OF FINISH TESTER - for 32 hours a sample of leather is put under pressure to see how the finish performs.
SOLE FLEX TESTER - a belt and pulley system tests the flexibility of our PU soles and checks they're not prone to cracking.
HEAT RESISTANCE TESTER - used to assess the resistance of the leather to the kind of heat it will face in the lasting process.
