Introducing the iStep
A Foot Pressure Analysis System

Recent studies have clearly demonstrated that there is a direct relationship between the pressure distribution on the feet while walking and the cause of chronic ankle, knee, hip and low back pain. In the past, pressure distribution and walking patterns were analyzed by having the patient step on transparent glass and/or by using a blueprint. These techniques were far from being an exact science but were quite helpful.

As
the need for more precise results arose, computerized methods and tools,
including electronic baropedometers, were developed. The baropedometers were
installed inside shoes, or were used as external plates, which patients could
step on, and a clear analysis of their walking pattern and foot pressure
transmitted to PC for later viewing and analyzing.
These systems are overly complicated systems and very expensive to the
practitioners and to the patient/customer.
The
iStep commercial system is an easy-to-use, state-of-the-art pressure analysis
and insole construction diagnostics tool, consisting of a baropedometer
containing 1024 barosensitive sensors, which is connected to a Pentium PC. The
iStep commercial software offers all the features long awaited by the pedorthic
profession and other health professionals, combining simplicity with human
engineering characteristics. The
system is very simple and quick to use.

Various tests are made using the electronic pedometer, such as static (standing) and dynamic (walking, gait analysis) tests. The readings can be viewed instantly on the screen in two or three-dimensional displays or printed. The iStep gives pounds per square inch to all areas of the feet and center of gravity of the body. It also gathers information to tell the weight distribution from the left and the right sides of the body to aid in the assessment. The information gathered is used to guide the patient/customer as to what type of foot orthoses they may need.

The orthotic devices are available with metatarsal support offering protection for patients with “hot spots” at the ball of the foot. Lynco® orthotic devices are also available with medial posting to realign the rearfoot and control over pronation. These “posted orthoses provide immediate relief for pronation related problems such as posterior tibial tendonitis and plantar fasciitis. The Lynco® orthotic devices are made of triple density, light weight, and have enough styles to accommodate 90% of foot disorders.
